In semi-related news, am currently reading Four Fish by Paul Greenberg. Am just about finished with the introduction chapter.
From the Jan. 13th Philly Inquirer:
"If you like to eat salmon, there is a very important issue coming up with the proposed Pebble Mine at the headwaters of Bristol Bay in Alaska. More than 60 million salmon migrate there every year, and a company called Anglo American wants to have a copper and gold mine there. But copper is notoriously bad for salmon. It will throw off their navigation system and they will get lost. Every time you go into the canned-fish section, the salmon is from Bristol Bay, and about half of the wild Alaskan salmon comes from there. If you care about this issue, write to your congressman."
